Abstract

This project describes the synthesis, characterization and investigation of solvatechromic behavior of novel oxovanadium(IV) complexes containing tetradentate N4 type Schiff base ligands derived from condensation of 1,2-ethylenediamine, meso-1,2-diphenyl-1,2-ethylenediamine and 1,3- propanediamine with 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde. All of the ligands (L1, L2 and L3) and complexes (VOL1, VOL2 and VOL3) were synthesized according to the well-known literature procedure and were characterized with IR, 1HNMR, UV-Vis methods. The novel VOL1, VOL2 and VOL3 complexes were obtained with (V=O) stretching band about 960-980 cm-1. All of the complexes characterized in monomeric structure. The complex VOLx (X = 1, 2 and 3) is considerably soluble in a wide variety of solvents and shows solvatochromic behavior. The 2B2 2E(I) transition wavenumber shows a linear correlation to the D.N. of the solvents.
