Copper-catalyzed S-arylation of thiols can be accomplished using air-stable CuI as a copper source and 1,10-phenanthroline as a ligand in the presence of KF/Al2O3 as a suitable base. This is a simple and efficient method for the coupling of aryl iodide with thiols. Different functionalized aryl iodides were coupled with aliphatic, aromatic and heteroaromatic thiols using this system.
