Through a complicated synthetic process involving esterification, hydrazide creation, and condensation with an aldehyde derivative under reflux circumstances, a novel Schiff base ligand was created. Three standard transition metal complexes were created utilizing the synthetic ligand in coordination reactions using specific metal ions. FT-IR, UV-VIS spectroscopy, molar conductivity spectra, and ¹H NMR analyses were among the physical and spectroscopic techniques used to elucidate the structures of the ligand and the resultant complexes. The spectroscopic data demonstrated the successful formation of the azomethine (C=N) functionality and its involvement in coordination with the metal centers. The ligand's thermal properties were examined using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), which indicated the ligand's breakdown mechanism and thermal stability. Electronic spectroscopy data and molar conductivity studies were used to identify electrolytic complexes with an octahedral formed around the metal ions. The observed spectral shifts upon complexation indicated effective coordination between the ligand donor atoms and the metal centers. In addition, the biological activities of the synthesized compounds were evaluated. The antimicrobial activity was determined using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method against selected microbial strains, while the anticancer activity was assessed against cancer cell lines to investigate their potential cytotoxic properties. The obtained results demonstrated that the metal complexes exhibited enhanced biological activity compared with the free ligand, which may be attributed to the chelation effect that enhances the lipophilicity and biological efficacy of the complexes. Overall, the synthesized Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes represent promising candidates for further studies in medicinal and bioinorganic chemistry.
